some RACIST HOOLIGANS at the titus show brought little confederate flags with them and tried to hand them out during “a more perfect union” and A LOT OF PEOPLE TOOK THEM AND WAVED THEM AROUND??? and patrick thankfully called everyone out on their racist bs and was like “i’m disappointed in you” and then he burned one flag and ate another
he ate a fuckin flag
I do not deny how badass it was of Patrick Stickles to do that to the Confederate Flag. I wish I had the balls/stomach to do that. Obviously that flag is an emblem of racism and hatred. However, I can’t help but wonder if the kids at this show are actual racists or just fell victim to a misinterpretation of the song.
For a long time, I was confused about the lyric ‘When they hang Jeff Davis from a sour apple tree/ I’ll sit beneath the leaves and weep’ After really studying that song and The Monitor as a whole, I understand what it means. But it took me some time. Maybe these kids were yet to take that time and maybe they wanted to do something special for that song.
I’m not, by any means, supporting the false pride that some people take in that flag. I am compelled to give those kids the benefit of the doubt. I think that calling them ‘racist hooligans’ is a quick judgement. I’m glad that Patrick went to the lengths he did to show just how disgusted he felt, again if I was as badass as he is and in his position, I would have done the same. I just do not think it is fair to assign such a character judgement to these kids, who are probably just confused fans.
